After I retired and moved to Florida in 2001, I combined two lifelong interests—wildlife and photography—into High Resolution Bird Photos. I hope my enjoyment of this happy combination shows in my photos.
I studied Wildlife Management at Texas A&M University and Zoology at Southern Illinois University, and in 1970 I started a business, Wildlife Materials, Inc., to manufacture radio-tracking equipment for wildlife research studies. Before I retired in 2000, we began to use this same technology to locate Alzheimers sufferers.
Living in Florida presents plentiful opportunities for observing and photographing spectacular birds.
I am grateful for help from Lyn Atherton of Bonnie daBird in Tierra Verde, FL; birding pals and guides from all over the world, especially Joseph Mwangi of Kenya; birding companions and lifelong friends, Jerry and Sharon Butler and John and Martha Schwegman, whom we have traveled to many parts of the world with; James Swallow from Photographic Art Society of St. Petersburg for sharing his expertise on photo editing and building this website; and, my daughter, Camille Hawkins James who also assisted with this website.
With my wife, Linda, always by my side, I have been privileged to photograph birds and other wildlife all over the U.S. as well as Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania. I hope you enjoy my photographs from these travels.
